The dilute acid is used internally in fevers to quench thirst, in bronchitis and phthisis to diminish the excessive secretions, in some cases of syphilis, in phosphaturia.

It has been injected into the bladder in a dilute form to dissolve calculi (Brunton).

Acidum Nitricum Sphere of clinical action

The medicine especially affects the areas where skin meets mucous membranes. It is reported to be useful in haemorrhoids, fissure, ulcer, diarrhoea, bright's disease, bronchitis, corns, dysentery, fistula, warts, etc.

It is indicated in blisters and ulcers in mouth, tongue, genitals; bleed easily. Fissures, with pain during stool, as if rectum were torn. All discharges very offensive, especially urine, feces, and perspiration. Persons who have chronic diseases, and take cold easily and disposed to diarrhœa. Excessive physical irritability. Cachexia, due to syphilis, scrofula, intermittent fever with liver involvement and anæmia, etc. Gravel; arthritis. Capillary bleeding after curettage.
